After 15 long seasons, Homer “Homey” Looper finally calls time on his pro-cycling career and hangs up his pedals. A solid, dependable and loyal domestique who enjoyed his tours and joins a small select group of riders who has clocked over 300 rides for TB and thus deserved to referenced.
A rider who outside pro-cycling was equally at home being at home (hence his nickname) and aside from providing sterling LO support he was a dab hand at playstation. Homey was plucked from the East Anglian local cycling scene in S45 (alongside Guilbert) by TB’s regional scouting network in the area.
Homey served in the TB youth academy for two seasons and quickly developed a niche for flat sprints, tour rides with a side penchant for TT and quickly developed as a rider under the tutelage of more experienced riders in the team such as Roberts, Glass and Spearman. Homey quickly developed a reputation as a dependable rider lower down the LO train. Homey signed pro-terms before the start of S47 – the same year TB relocated to Ukraine and Looper joined a small contingent of English riders in TB who agreed to relocate (Homey was single and he liked beetroots).
Given his role, places were hard to come to but this changed in S49 when Homey secured his first place, a 9th in the stage 5 of the Sanreizan tour, Fuji-Tokyo and this was a sign of his ability on tour stage races. Over the course of his career developed a pattern of solid LO support work with the occasional place (particularly on tours – which he enjoyed). However when Homey did win a place it was the cause of many a wild after-race party organised by his less than subtle team-mates who knew his reluctance – however after his 4th gorilka he turned into a monster (aka loopy - his otherb nickname). His after race party after securing a 6th at the Stachanov Street Race in Ukraine this season was particularly memorable not that we can actually remember what happened.
His best season came relatively late in his career in S58 when he secured his first, and only podium – a 3rd on stage 5 of the Monte Rosa Tour – Geneve-Geneve and for the first time in his career broke into the top 2000 ranked riders.
A good solid dependable rider, well liked by his teammates – he will be sorely missed so we are pleased to announce that Homey will be staying on for a few extra seasons to serve as part of TB’s coaching staff.

@annodomini - seems strange as seems to have been ok in the past...but I can remove the tour item to reduce it and I've done the same with Guilbert.
I see you suggested a bio for him - good idea, but please remove the records from the bio - all his palmares will be visible anyway, so it is pointless to add those. Submit another one without the records and i am sure it will be voted in.
get* the homage
Nice one..
Good to see Homey deserve the homage he deserves
